The Idea

THE IDEA

The first Thinking Musician course took place in Belgium in 2017 in a philosophical commune of thinkers, at the Campus of Diversity Gelbergen in Tienen, Belgium.

Created by Maria Tarasewicz the concept of this masterclass was unlike the traditional music course in which students concentrate only on their instrumental skills. The Thinking Musician’s first goal is to provoke intellectually the artist within and to liberate their creativity. Formal music education often limits the freedom of the artist, focusing on the craft of playing rather than the art of creative expression, and not always treating the developing performer as a holistic human being who already possesses imagination and sensitivity. Through a unique and individual approach, The Thinking Musician unblocks the creative soul by exploring deeply the secrets of great interpretation and communication of music, the necessity of personal expression and the responsibilities of the artist in the 21st century.

Since 2017 The Thinking Musician Music Course and Festival has worked with some outstanding students, inspiring artists and thoughtful speakers. We have travelled from Belgium to the Italian mountains and Canary Islands and have performed in venues from market places to monasteries, private homes to concert halls.

We believe that the revival of the Renaissance artist is a necessity in today’s world. Our talented musicians are provoked into an awareness of societal change, climate issues, political crises and the holistic development of the individual. The Thinking Musician project has proved that our performers have enhanced abilities to transform the listener by communicating their music in a truly personal way, though sharing music and celebrating humanity.
