The course begins with a welcome and introduction at 18.00 on Sunday 25th August and will end on the 5rd September after we have cleaned the villa. There is a final concert on 4nd September.
The course address is: Casa Nicola, Via delle Corti 35, Popiglio, Toscana 51020, Italy
Popiglio is a small town between Pistoia and Lucca.
The nearest airports are Pisa and Firenze, both served by budget airlines.
If travelling by train and bus:
From Firenze, take the train to Pistoia and bus to San Marcello Pistoiese. There is another bus then to Popiglio but if you decide to do this route we can probably pick you up at San Marcello Pistoiese. From Pisa there is a shuttle bus from the airport to the train station, or it is about 15/20 minutes’ walk. From Pisa take the train to Lucca. Alternatively, there is a bus direct from Pisa airport to Lucca. From Lucca you can either take a train to Pistoai and follow the instruction as above or take a train to Bagni di Lucca/Stazione Fs Fornoli, bus to Bagni di. Lucca Villa – Piazza Xi Zona Patriot, and then a bus to Popiglio.
We can also organise pickups from the airports and main train stations nearby, and Pistoia and Lucca (likely to be 15-20 Euros including bags and instruments). Therefore, we will need to know your travel details as soon as you arrange it.
If coming by car there is parking in Popiglio and it is just over an hour from Pisa or Firenze
Popiglio is a wonderful Tuscan town with lots of charm. There is a shop 3 minutes’ walk from Casa Nicola where you can get fresh fruit and general supplies as well as a baker’s 2 minutes’ walk from our villa where you can buy fresh bread for your kitchen. There is a pharmacy 2 minutes’ walk.
In shared rooms in Casa Nicola. We will come together for lunch and dinner, and everyone will help prepare dinner at least once during the course (working in small groups under the guidance of our resident chef). Meals are taken together, and this is an important part of the course dynamic.
We work together as a collective for this course. The use of mobile phones is prohibited during any of the common activities (lessons, workshops, provocations, rehearsals, concerts and particularly meal times). Ideally participants should try and find a mind-set where the norm is “no phones” and you allocate perhaps just two occasions per day when you check your phone when you are alone.
Music stands/piano parts:
You will need to bring your own music stand. If playing a piece with piano, bring the piano parts also.
If you would like to play some chamber music please do suggest it, or bring the music for some impromptu chamber music sessions.
Walks and time in nature is planned so please have with you comfortable walking shoes, waterproof jackets (it does sometimes rain in the mountains for a few hours), mosquito repellents and sun cream.
